The ecoinvent Centre is a Competence Centre of ETHZ, EPFL, PSI, Empa and ART - is the world's leading supplier of consistent and transparent life cycle inventory (LCI) data of known quality with the database ecoinvent data v2.2 and offers science-based, industrial, international life cycle assessment (LCA) and life cycle management (LCM) data and services.

Created in 1997, the ecoinvent Centre (originally called the Swiss Centre for Life Cycle Inventories) is a Competence Centre of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zürich (ETH Zurich) and Lausanne (EPF Lausanne), the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research (Empa), and the Swiss Federal Research Station Agroscope Reckenholz-Tänikon (ART).

PlesTech was formed in 2002 and has since operated in Europe, US and SE Asia via partnerships with local companies earning a high reputation in the fields of environmental software development, training, eco-design, life cycle analysis, materials and environmental legislation compliance.

PlesTech developed the EcoFly software to address the need for LCA software that was easy to use, had powerful capabilities and at the same time is suitable for engineers to use in product launch. The majority of the software on the market previously had been developed by academia rather than engineers and was too slow and cumbersome for companies to use in the product launch process. At the other end of the scale available software was often simplified to the extent it was only suitable for use on simple products such as kettles or toasters. PlesTech can in addition to supplying EcoFly carry out life cycle analysis of your products for you using the tool, and this has been done for a number of companies both in the US and Europe with very positive feedback from customers.
